Aubrey Plaza in Lula Magazine

"I just love the idea of playing a magical bad-ass witch...a super-confident kind of femme fatale character. Like Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction!"

I am loving this old Hollywood chic that Plaza has going on lately.
She looks like a classy, savvy woman. Definitely femme fatale.

Can I Be Blunt? with Aubrey Plaza

I know, too soon, too soon. But just read it.

1. You’ll never know more about Judy Garland than I do. I have been obsessed since I was 10. And, no, not “Dorothy” Judy. I’m talking “1960s-singing-her-heart-out-at-the-fucking-Palace” Judy. Duh.
2. I don’t know what I would do without you. I definitely wouldn’t know about Manhunt, anal fissures, or where to get the best guacamole.
3. Why is my Joy Behar impersonation the only one you ever ask me to do? (I know it’s good. Shut up.)
4. Stop trying to make me wear those quilted brown leather Phillip Lim hot pants. I’m scared, and you know it.
5. I wish you had real periods so we could eat chocolate Rice Dream and watch Hocus Pocus together.
6. Thank you for giving me the courage to finally have my vagina waxed. And thank you for being gentle.
7. Please let me have your babies. Even though I am a washed-up sea hag, my womb is young and clean and in really good shape. Please.
8. Can we open up a store together where we talk people out of buying things and then make them come to our dinner parties?
9. No more dressing like a slutty sailor.
10. Remember when we got stoned and saw The Blind Side twice in a row by accident? Let’s not do that again.

Aubrey Plaza at 2011 Emmy Awards

Don't worry, you're not going crazy. Expect me to blog about this girl on a weekly basis.
Because of her hipster vibe, Aubrey might be the last person you'd expect to pull off the old Hollywood style. But since it's the Emmys, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say she did, right? But first let me let you in on a little secret: Aubrey is obsessed with Judy Garland. Apparently she listens to her records while she's cleaning, and has memorized all these facts about her. She has said that if she could meet any fictional character, she would choose Esther Blodgett (from A Star is Born). So all this, aside from being totally stunning, makes perfect sense. Jean Harlow lips + Ava Gardner hair + an oh-so-twenties Juan Carlos Obando ruffle-front gown = A-plus!

And don't let me forget this little gem...
I didn't say she spoke like a lady!

Damsels In Distress

So, it's been over ten years since Whit Stillman did a movie...remember The Last Days of Disco? Well now that it's 2011 and all, Whit brings it again (at the Venice Film Fest no less) with a spunky, romantic-entangled comedy dubbed "Damsels in Distress" and starring Greta Gerwig (love!), Analeigh Tipton (love!), and Adam Brody (hot!!) Also, apparently Aubrey Plaza makes a cameo as a "jaded, overly mascaraed, tap dance skeptic on suicide watch." Um, when can I see this, like, I don't know...now?

Aubrey Plaza at 2011 ALMA Awards

In a Giambattista Valli dress from the Fall 2011 collection
and Brian Atwood Maniac pumps.
Love the bunchy, offbeat, textured skirt
in contrast with the sleeker, more elegant long sleeves.
Oh, and ahem, those legs! What. a. stunner.

Messy Is A Good Thing

"When I say messy, I mean there is movement in the
photograph. The object might not be in motion, but it has movement. Movement is the energy that a precise moment contains. An image vocalizes that energy."
